very interesting how the pastor’s wife immediately went to not believing the girls. i am not saying it’s easy to hear and believe that a person you’ve always loved and trusted has done vile things. but her reaction was disgraceful and unfortunately far too realistic.
in situations like this, you hold space for the possibility that the accusations are true and hope that they’re not, but never deny them outright or swear it’s impossible. plus after seeing the video, she must KNOW her husband’s body after all those years married!
in real life, wives and spouses of predatory men go out of their way to disprove victims, shame and silence them. her threat to have Garland and his wife and “little daughter” ostracised from the church did not fly over my head. i suppose her asking for forgiveness in the end is fine with many people. but her vitriolic response, and the vehement support for her husband, YUCK!
